In its 200th year, the University of Manchester holds a major celebration for higher education.
As part of its bicentennial celebrations, the University of Manchester will host Times Higher Education’s premier World Academic Summit from Monday, October 7, to Wednesday, October 9.
The theme of the conference, which is held at The University of Manchester, is “Making a difference: the role of universities in a rapidly changing world.”
More than 400 people will attend the showcase event for higher education, which will bring together thought leaders from the fields of academia, public policy, business, and civil society. A variety of keynote speeches, panel discussions, seminars, case study discussions, hands-on workshops, best practice sharing activities, and networking events will be included in the program.
THE’s World University Rankings 2025, the most renowned, reliable, and respected ranking in the world, will be unveiled during the occasion. The World University Rankings 2024 results, which were announced on September 27th, are available here.
The discussion will address important issues in higher education, such as:
- the significance of exercising civic responsibility
- stimulating innovation
- cooperation between and within institutions

“We are delighted our flagship World Academic Summit will return to the UK for the first time since it was hosted by King’s College London in 2017,” said Phil Baty, THE’s chief global relations officer. As part of the university’s larger bicentennial celebrations during 2024, we are especially thrilled to be hosting in cooperation with The University of Manchester to highlight the institution’s leadership and impact, which are recognized around the world.
We will meet to debate the topic “Making a difference: The role of universities in a rapidly changing world” at Britain’s first civic university.
